Sunday, August 8, 2010, is our next PAPER meeting in Bellevue. We will meet from 1-4 pm at the Bellevue public library. John and others will be our instructors this month. One of the models John is going to teach will be a dollar bill fold, so bring a couple of crisp dollar bills with you to the meeting. I want to remind everyone that the only thing they need to bring with them on Sunday, besides their enthusiasm for origami, is their own paper to fold.
Another reminder for people coming from Seattle over to Bellevue: this weekend are the hydroplane races and air show at Lake Washington. The I-90 bridge will be closed from 12:45 to 2:30 pm while the air show is being performed. Either head for Bellevue a little early to make sure you get across in time or head through Renton around the south end of the lake. I think they let the 520 bridge remain open also.

This will be a quick post from Dulles Airport on my way to Italy. Our next PAPER meeting will be this coming Sunday, May 9. We will be back at the Bellevue Public Library in the main meeting room. Come join us from 1-4 pm.
Ray and John and others will take over the teaching duties this month. I don’t know what they have in mind, but they always come up with good selections. Have fun.

This Sunday is Valentine’s Day and for our PAPER meeting it will be Michael LaFosse Day. No, Michael is not going to be here and it’s not his birthday, that I know of. Instead we will learn two new models created by Michael. One is a 6-piece modular flower. The other model is his penguin.
For the flower, 3 inch square paper is fine. That will make a flower about 5-6 inches in diameter. Bring at least 10 inch square paper for the penguin. If you have larger paper, that would make your first time easier. And the penguin is a duo-color model, so paper that is black on one side and white on the other will give you the true “penguin effect.”
Our meeting will be at the Bellevue Public Library, from 1-4 pm. We will be in the main conference room. Hope to see you then.

PAPER has produced, on behalf of Kemper Development, an origami exhibit as part of the Bellevue Magic Season. During the month of December there will be many events and celebrations in downtown Bellevue in honor of the Christmas season. As part of the Snowflake Lane events, we mounted an exhibit in the Bellevue Place Winter Garden.
The folders participating in the exhibit include John Blackman, Giang Dinh, Faye Goldman, Jamie Kelley, Goran Konjevod, Mark Morden, Meenakshi Mukerji, Bernie Peyton, Arnold Tubis, and John Smiley. (more…)

Here are the dates for our meetings for the remainder of the year.
- October 11 at Bellevue Library
- November 15 at Redmond Library – Note that this is the 3rd Sunday of November. PCOC is scheduled for the 8th, which would be our regular meeting date.

Sorry for the Northwest Tour of Meeting Locations, but it is a busy time of year for groups to meet due to the holidays. We have to take what we can get.
Keep an eye out for more detail about each of the meetings about a week before they will be held.

PAPER participated in the Eastside Nihon Matsuri at Bellevue College last Saturday and Sunday. It was a pretty low-key atmosphere as we welcomed festival visitors to learn some origami. The some of the models that we usually teach include the traditional and flapping crane, a jumping frog, flowers, spinners, and butterflies. For young children or true beginners, we will help them through the traditional cup, a swan, or a Montroll penquin. For more advanced folders we will teach them modulars, like the Ichi Bashi Ball.
In addition to teaching origami, we were able to set up a small exhibit of models folded by the group. Ray Takeguchi, John Smiley, Mark Morden, and former member Steve Hecht participated in the exhibit. Photos of the event and the exhibit are after the jump. (more…)

On Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13, ENMA will present “Aki Matsuri (Fall Festival).” The matsuri is a 2-day program of Japanese cultural, educational, and fun events for all age groups, to celebrate Japan’s rich cultural heritage. A large number of local artists and craftpersons practicing Japanese-style arts and crafts (including the performing arts and martial arts), and Japan related businesses & organizations will be participating during the entire two day event.
This will be the 12th year of the festival, and PAPER has participated since the beginning. The festival will be held at Bellevue Community College in Bellevue, Washington. We will have an area set up to teach origami to festival visitors. Our booth will be located in Building C, the cafeteria. See the link below to locate the building on Campus.
Please note that we will not have our regularly scheduled PAPER meeting this month, since the festival takes place on the same weekend as our meeting.
