Sunday, August 8, 2010, is our next PAPER meeting in Bellevue. We will meet from 1-4 pm at the Bellevue public library. John and others will be our instructors this month. One of the models John is going to teach will be a dollar bill fold, so bring a couple of crisp dollar bills with you to the meeting. I want to remind everyone that the only thing they need to bring with them on Sunday, besides their enthusiasm for origami, is their own paper to fold.
Another reminder for people coming from Seattle over to Bellevue: this weekend are the hydroplane races and air show at Lake Washington. The I-90 bridge will be closed from 12:45 to 2:30 pm while the air show is being performed. Either head for Bellevue a little early to make sure you get across in time or head through Renton around the south end of the lake. I think they let the 520 bridge remain open also.

As stated last week, due to scheduling conflicts at our usual meeting locations, we have to shift our meeting day again this month to the third Sunday.
Our next PAPER meeting will be on Sunday, July 18, at the Redmond Public Library. Our meeting time will be from 1-4 PM. I have two models to teach. The first is a “Crane Envelope.” The second is the “Spides” kusudama by Lukasheva Ekaterina. The photo shows 12 modules formed into an octahedron. The module can be formed into an icosahedron or a dodecahedron. I added an extra fold that locks the modules together (more) securely.

Spides octahedron. (Sorry for the random color scheme. This is the trial version.)
See you on Sunday.

We’re doing it again. In June, we had to shift our meeting date from the second Sunday to the third Sunday. Due to scheduling conflicts at our usual meeting locations, we have to shift our meeting day again this month.
Our next PAPER meeting will be on Sunday, July 18, at the Redmond Public Library. Our meeting time will be from 1-4 PM. I haven’t decided what to teach yet. Please check back here next week, and I will have more information and photos of our “agenda.”
See you next Sunday.

This will be a quick post from Dulles Airport on my way to Italy. Our next PAPER meeting will be this coming Sunday, May 9. We will be back at the Bellevue Public Library in the main meeting room. Come join us from 1-4 pm.
Ray and John and others will take over the teaching duties this month. I don’t know what they have in mind, but they always come up with good selections. Have fun.

This Sunday, March 14, will be our next PAPER meeting. This month we get together at the library in Redmond from 1-4 pm. We have two projects planned for the afternoon. I will teach a one-piece box with a woven closure. This model was created by Clemente Giusto. Rebecca will teach her own modular to us. It doesn’t have a name, but for now we can call it the “It’s not the Ichi Bashi ball” modular. Come see for your self. Here is information about the Redmond Library.
Please note that we will not be having a meeting in April. There are several events we will be participating in during the month. The first weekend we will have a booth at Sakura-Con as well as hosting a folding session at the SAAM on Saturday, April 3. The weekend of April 16-18 is the Seattle Cherry Blossom & Japanese Cultural Festival. We will be there teaching origami to the festival visitors. With so much going on, we’ll take a meeting break next month.
To find out more about these events and how you can participate either come to our meeting on Sunday or email me (markmorden AT comcast.net) or Lori Gregory (loribethg AT comcast.net).

This Sunday is Valentine’s Day and for our PAPER meeting it will be Michael LaFosse Day. No, Michael is not going to be here and it’s not his birthday, that I know of. Instead we will learn two new models created by Michael. One is a 6-piece modular flower. The other model is his penguin.
For the flower, 3 inch square paper is fine. That will make a flower about 5-6 inches in diameter. Bring at least 10 inch square paper for the penguin. If you have larger paper, that would make your first time easier. And the penguin is a duo-color model, so paper that is black on one side and white on the other will give you the true “penguin effect.”
Our meeting will be at the Bellevue Public Library, from 1-4 pm. We will be in the main conference room. Hope to see you then.

This coming Sunday, January 10, we begin another year of PAPER meetings. By my hazy recollection, 2010 will be PAPER’s 15th year. Time flies when you are folding origami.
Our meeting this month will be at the Redmond public library from 1-4 pm. If you need information or directions to the library, click here.
I will teach two models. The first is a modular, shown in the photo, by Christine Edison. The unit is simple. The connection will take a few tries to get used to the maneuvering necessary to bring the ends of two units together. The unit can be used to make a 30 unit dodecahedron or a 12 unit cube. In order to get ready for Valentines Day, I am looking for a heart-themed model to teach also.
Please remember to bring some paper to fold, since we can’t provide group paper anymore. The modular can be folded from 3 inch paper, though it can be tricky if you have large or clumsy fingers. 4-6 inch paper will be good for learning.
Hope to see you on Sunday.

This Sunday, December 13, will be our last PAPER meeting for 2009. We will get together in Seattle at the Beacon Hill Library from 1-4 pm. If you need information or directions to the library, click here. I have two models to teach. One is an inflatable swan by Roman Diaz. The other is my Christmas Star.
Please remember to bring some paper to fold, since we can’t provide group paper anymore. The swan can be folded from 6 inch paper, but for the first time it is easier with larger paper. The star can be folded from 6 or 8 inch paper. Both models show both sides of the paper if you want to bring duo-colored paper.
Hope to see you on Sunday.

This Sunday, November 15, is our next PAPER meeting. We will be gathering at the Redmond Public Library from 1-4 pm. I will be teaching my newest modular, Floating Stars, and a new Michael LaFosse butterfly, June’s Butterfly. Also, if we can work it out, we will view photos from PCOC.
Hope to see you on Sunday.

November will be a busy origami month with three events that PAPER will be participating in.
PCOC – November 5-8: PCOC will be held next weekend in San Francisco. Many of our PAPER group will be there participating in the classes and events. Look for photos of the conference here in a week or so.
PAPER meeting – November 15: Because PCOC is next Sunday, our November group meeting will be on the third Sunday of November. Revisit here in about a week for more information about the activities on the 15th.
Between the Folds – November 21: The Seattle premier of “Between the Folds” at the SIFF Theater at Seattle Center. PAPER will be teaching origami to the film-goers after the movie. We will have more details at the November 15 meeting.
We hope to see you at one or more of these events. Stay tuned for announcement of a special December event in Bellevue.
